The
Aubrey-Maturin series, a series of nautical historical novels, are set on a
24-gun frigate in the fleet of the British Royal Navy during the Napoleonic
Wars. The stories center on the friendship between Captain Jack Aubrey and
Stephen Maturin, ship’s surgeon and secret agent.
Acclaimed
author Patrick O’Brian has been compared to Jane Austen and C.S. Forester.
The 2003
film Master and Commander: The Far Side
of the World, starring Russell Crow as Jack Aubrey, was based on these
novels.
"When empires were won and lost at sea, the strength of a nation depended on the courage of a few." (movie trailer)
